Ruby Ridge is a "platform game" with adaptive access features to ensure it can be played by players with almost any age or ability.

The aim of the game is to pick up rubies and make your way through the levels until you reach the giant ruby at the end of the game. Picking up the key takes the player to the next level. Floating red blobs can also be introduced as an element of danger - touch one and you lose a life.

The game can be played by keyboard, joystick, mouse, expanded keyboard (eg. Intellikeys), or switch (scanning). Potentially the game could also be played using Speech Recognition.

The speed of the player’s character, and the enemy characters can be adjusted through a wide range. The number of lives and the time available to complete each level can be adjusted. In the full (registered) version the complexity of the game can be adjusted by using the "Level Designer" to create custom screens to play. Screens can be as simple as a single line (Fig 1.), or as complex as multiple platforms linked by ladders, escalators, and slides (Fig 2.)
